Usually Lucas felt safe with Michigan. It was one of the greatest things about the doctor, but in that moment there was something dangerous about him. His own fear of commitment and hesitation over Michigan’s “vampire craziness” that was putting that fear in him. There was no way Michigan was dangerous. He smelled just like he always did and Lucas felt just as safe and protected as he always did.
